Reasons to Give to Advocate Charitable Foundation
Many of life’s most significant, highly emotional moments happen in a hospital. From a trip to the emergency room, to a recovery from a serious illness, to the birth of a new family member, every member of a community is touched by the hospital at some point. Because of this reach into people’s lives, a hospital plays an essential role in an area’s quality of life and provides a source of community identity and pride.

Why give to Advocate?
Did you or someone you love receive excellent, compassionate care at an Advocate hospital? Do you want to give back to the hospital so others can have the same benefit? Do you want to help sustain quality health care close to home?
To provide quality health care, not-for-profit hospitals like Advocate’s rely on philanthropic support from the communities they serve. Patients’ fees cover essential services, but seldom provide the resources we need to advance our capabilities, to attract more of the best caregivers and reach out with the extra measure of care that, at an Advocate hospital, will never be optional.
Where does your gift go?
Health is personal and individual, an intimate part of who we are. So is charitable giving. You can support a hospital, a program, a community; the direction of your gift is yours to decide. Advocate Health Care is committed to philanthropy and absorbs all administrative costs so that 100 percent of your gift directly benefits the program of your choice. Your generosity will be felt at home in your neighborhood—or perhaps in dozens of communities. It may touch a few grateful lives—or two million.
What does being “not-for-profit” mean?
Advocate is a not-for-profit organization. After operating expenses, any leftover revenue is used to purchase new equipment and facilities, so we can keep up with health care’s rapid changes. We have no stockholders, no investors. In fact, like most not-for-profit hospitals, we work hard to break even.
What does your gift make possible?
When you make a charitable donation, you are both giving back to your hospital and strengthening the community. With the help of your generosity:
- Advocate maintains half of the Level One trauma centers in the Chicago area. We are on the frontline for serious accidents, injuries and emergency preparedness.
- Advocate provided $250 million in charity care and community outreach programs last year alone. These funds helped the poor and uninsured access care they could not otherwise afford, and provided care, screenings and education in homeless shelters, senior centers and faith communities.
- Advocate spends millions each year operating inner city hospitals that regularly lose money. These hospitals serve some of Chicago’s neediest communities.
As a family of not-for-profit hospitals, we rely on our donors to make the difference. Your generosity enables us to provide cost-effective, compassionate care. It’s our donors who provide our margin of excellence.
