Diagnostic Imaging Services

Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging Center combines the latest state-of-the-art technology with the caring hands of our health care professionals. With approximately 180 associates and 13 full-time board certified radiologists on staff, we perform more than 250,000 procedures each year. Diagnostic Imaging services are also available at the Advocate Good Samaritan Outpatient Centers in Lemont and south Downers Grove.

The Diagnostic Imaging Center is accredited by the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and holds several other accreditations and certifications.*

Dedicated radiologists provide advanced diagnostic services that include:

• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
• Nuclear Imaging and Medicine
• PET/CT
• Ultrasound

We also perform interventional radiology procedures, including:

• Kyphoplasty

  Kyphoplasty can help restore damaged vertebrae to their original shape. During the procedure, a physician inserts a balloon device into a vertebra through a small incision in the patient’s back. The balloon is inflated, and a cement-like material is injected. General or local anesthesia can be used.

• Uterine Artery Embolization

  Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) is a minimally invasive procedure commonly used to treat fibroid tumors. During the procedure, small catheters are inserted into both uterine arteries. Tiny particles are released through the catheters to block blood flow to the tumors, causing them to shrink. UAE can be an alternative to surgery, but it is not appropriate for all women. Please talk to your physician to learn whether UAE is right for you.

• Vertebroplasty

  During a Vertebroplasty, a physician inserts a hollow needle into a patient’s vertebrae and injects a cement-like material into the bone. Radiologists use fluoroscopic imaging technology to guide the needle and monitor the procedure. This minimally invasive procedure typically is done in an outpatient setting.
