Advocate Health announces selection of new chief philanthropy officer

Shannon Duval will lead the organization’s philanthropic and alumni relations efforts

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Advocate Health has selected Shannon Duval as its new chief philanthropy officer. In this role, Shannon will lead the organization’s philanthropic and alumni relations efforts, driving strategic initiatives to support Advocate Health’s purpose to redefine care — for all.

Duval brings nearly 30 years of experience and a proven track record in philanthropy and health care leadership. Prior to joining Advocate Health, Duval served as the global chief development officer for Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc., where she was responsible for elevating the financial and in-kind support for the RMHC System while driving global strategies to amplify and accelerate its development efforts in over 60 countries.

Duval has extensive development and philanthropic experience in academic medicine, national health charities, community-based medicine and health systems, including previously serving as the deputy chief philanthropy officer at CommonSpirit Health, the chief development officer and national foundation president for Catholic Health Initiatives, as well as in leadership roles for MercyOne and Unity Point Health Systems. Duval started her career at the University of Iowa Foundation, raising funds for the Carver College of Medicine.

Duval serves as vice chair of the Board of Trustees at her alma mater, Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and holds master’s degrees from both Indiana University and Drake University Law School. She serves as a board member for the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) as well as a faculty member at the AHP Madison Institute and the Modern Institute for Charitable Giving. She is regularly called upon as an industry expert within health care philanthropy and enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons.
