Advocate Health invests nearly $6.2B in community benefit

Health system among the largest providers of charitable care and services in the nation

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 4, 2025 — Advocate Health invested nearly $6.2 billion in community benefit last year. Equating to nearly $17 million a day and representing a 2.2% increase from the previous year, the investment builds on Advocate Health’s purpose to redefine care for all.

Part of the reinvestment in communities served by Advocate Health includes free or discounted care for more than half a million uninsured patients, including 100% charity care for nearly 190,000 individuals — that’s enough to fill the combined seating capacity of Bank of America Stadium, Lambeau Field and Wrigley Field. During the same period, the organization also helped more than 34,000 patients qualify for Medicaid, expanding access to essential health services.

In addition to subsidizing care for low-income patients, Advocate Health has streamlined access to care by removing paperwork barriers for those who qualify for financial assistance — automatically enrolling nearly 90% of eligible patients.

“Since our inception in 2022, Advocate Health has invested more than $18 billion in charitable programs that extend care far beyond clinical walls — from delivering fresh groceries to families in need, to offering free or discounted care for uninsured patients, to enrolling thousands of volunteers in cutting-edge research aimed at unlocking tomorrow’s cures,” said Eugene A. Woods, CEO of Advocate Health. “In 2024 alone, our $6.2 billion contribution to community benefit underscores our steadfast commitment to transforming health care — one patient, one program, and one community at a time.”

With a focus on addressing unique community needs across its six states, Advocate Health provides a variety of vital programs and services to help patients and communities better manage chronic conditions and behavioral health, as well as access to food, housing, support for violence-driven injuries and more.

Advocate Health’s community benefit contribution last year also underscores its dedication to improving health outcomes by:

  • Screening nearly 2 million patients for factors that impact health, like access to food and transportation.
  • Supporting the creation of more than 1,800 affordable housing units in communities.
  • Connecting more than 45,000 individuals and families with foods, including items specific to certain dietary needs, through food pharmacies, hospital pantries and more.
  • Enrolling more than 20,000 volunteers in clinical research to advance medical knowledge and improve patient care.

"From the heart of our cities to rural farmland, Advocate Health is committed to delivering care that’s rooted in access, affordability, innovation and compassion,” said Kinneil Coltman, Advocate Health’s chief consumer and social impact officer. “Our community benefit reflects a promise to serve every person — regardless of ZIP code — with the dignity and excellence they deserve.”
