CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Advocate Health has named Nicole Phillips as a senior vice president and the new chief marketing, brand and consumer officer for the nation’s third-largest nonprofit health care provider. Phillips will take charge of building stronger connections with consumers for a preeminent health care delivery system that is on the leading-edge of innovation, quality and academic medicine.
Advocate Health is made up of strong, regional care delivery brands: Advocate Health Care in Chicagoland; Atrium Health in Alabama, the Carolinas and Georgia; and Aurora Health Care, in Wisconsin. It cares for more than 6 million patients each year across its six-state footprint.
“Nicole is deeply passionate about consumers and bringing their voices to the forefront of the work that she leads,” said Kinneil Coltman, senior executive vice president and the chief consumer and social impact officer. “Her career has been highlighted by consistently delivering a more seamless and personalized experience for consumers, raising the bar for engagement and consumer experience. We are so excited to welcome Nicole and her talents to Advocate Health.”
In leading Advocate Health’s marketing, brand and consumer experience team, Phillips will advance technology-driven personalization experiences to deeply engage patients and consumers, while embedding the consumer voice into all of the health system’s marketing and experience strategies. Given Advocate Health’s “for all” mission, Phillips role will also be key in connecting with rural and urban populations alike that may previously have had limited access or opportunity to receive high-quality care close to home.
Advocate Health also epitomizes the intersection of academics, research and innovation, with Wake Forest University School of Medicine as its academic core. It’s two campuses — one in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and another in Charlotte, which just opened this past summer — are shouldered by life-sciences based innovation districts: Innovation Quarter, in Winston-Salem and The Pearl, in Charlotte.
“Advocate Health is truly a dream job for me,” said Phillips. “As we think about how people want to receive care today, it’s personalized and individualized. On top of that, AI is bending the curve in terms of medical capabilities, but also how we can better understand and serve each patient and their individualized needs. With my background spanning health, retail and consumer packaged goods, I recognize how important being close to the consumer results in brand loyalty and engagement. As we translate that to health care, it also can mean better health and well-being for those we are privileged to serve.”
Phillips spent the first half of her career with Procter and Gamble, followed by stops at Staples and children’s safety and convenience products manufacturer Dorel Juvenile. For the past 10 years, she has been working her way up the ranks at CVS Health, most recently serving as chief marketing officer for CVS Caremark. Throughout her career journey, she has established a long track record of transforming brands, products and digital marketing.
She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned her master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University. She also holds a certificate in social media marketing and analytics from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
