Advocate Aurora Research Institute was recently selected to become a member of the Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN), a national network comprising many of the best and most innovative health care systems across the U.S.
"I am pleased to welcome Advocate Aurora Research Institute to HCSRN. It is exciting to expand our network and foster collaboration with experienced researchers from a top health system with solid research infrastructure and interests well-aligned with HCSRN capacities. We anticipate the contributions from Advocate Aurora Health will assure continued success of the network in its mission to be the preeminent source of population-based research that measurably improves health and health care for all," said Robert Greenlee, PhD, MPH, Chair of the HCSRN Governing Board.
HCSRN brings together more than 2,000 scientists and research staff who bring their expertise in health services research, epidemiology, health economics, public health and social sciences to improve individual and population health through research.
As a network member, the Research Institute gains significant opportunities for research collaborations and access to big data capturing deidentified health information on more than 19 million people living in diverse communities that span the U.S.
“This is a great opportunity for our scientists and clinician investigators,” said Andy Marek, manager of the Office of Research Analytics and Systems Computing. “And it’s important to distinguish that HCSRN does not use a central data repository, so data only leaves Advocate Aurora for projects in which we are collaborators. This ensures our data security, reduces risk and improves data integrity for important population health research projects.”
Additionally, as part of the network, the Research Institute is a member of the HCSRN Board and acquires access to HCSRN’s learning health system training programs and member research materials and resources.
“Our HCSRN membership demonstrates the strength, expertise and value we bring to population health research collaborations due to our size, diverse population, and nationally recognized leaders and scientists,” said Denise Angst, PhD, RN, vice president of academic research and strategic partnerships at the Research Institute and HCSRN Board member. “We look forward to working with our HCSRN partners on research that will improve health outcomes, keep Advocate Aurora at the forefront of innovation and elevate our work as a learning health system.”
