Advocate Aurora Health recently published its 2020 Advocate Aurora Research Institute Annual Report.
This year’s annual report features a six-page section detailing the Research Institute’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to the traditional stories from Advocate Aurora clinical research participants and highlights of the research breakthroughs and innovative studies conducted by Research Institute team members across the organization.
“The world has learned a great deal about how research can positively impact patient care,” said Amit Acharya, PhD, chief research officer and system vice president for Advocate Aurora and the Research Institute. “We are delighted to share a selection of our research activities that are already changing lives or may someday soon, not just within the current pandemic, but also in the clinical areas of cardiovascular health, cancer care, neuroscience and more.”
The Research Institute supports more than 1,100 unique research projects, including preclinical studies, clinical trials and outcomes research projects, and other research activities. It works to translate this important research into practical and more effective treatments for Advocate Aurora patients.

- Diverse research: The Research Institute boasts a well-balanced research portfolio with projects in cardiovascular, oncology, neuroscience, pediatric and specialty research areas, which includes behavioral health, endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, mental health, population health, primary care, women’s health and more.
- Sound infrastructure: The Research Institute is supported by Advocate Charitable Foundation, Aurora Health Care Foundation and the Research Subject Protection Program, as well as the health system’s Brand, Consumer Experience and Public Affairs; Compliance; Finance; Graduate Medical Education; Health Informatics and Technology; Human Resources; Legal; and Pharmacy departments.
- International reach: Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews (JPCRR) has readers in more than 200 countries and all 50 states.
