Introducing JPCRR’s new editor-in-chief

Advocate Aurora Health’s Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews (JPCRR) will enter its 10th year of publication with a new captain at the helm.

Long-standing JPCRR editorial board member Bruce Morgenstern, MD, has been named the journal’s new editor-in-chief, succeeding founding editor and recently retired Dennis Baumgardner, MD, who spearheaded the launch of JPCRR in 2014 and ushered in its subsequent selection to the prestigious health science literature index PubMed Central.

Dr. Morgenstern holds multiple roles at the Roseman University of Health Sciences in Las Vegas, where he serves in the dean’s office and is a professor of pediatrics. With 40 years of experience as a pediatric nephrologist and physician educator, he is well-versed in both clinical care and research practices. His wealth of medical and editorial experience strengthens and complements the expertise of JPCRR’s current editorial board and staff.

In an introduction to the now-published Volume 9, Issue 4, Dr. Morgenstern outlines his goals in taking the reins of the JPCRR editorial team. First and foremost, the journal will remain focused on publishing investigations or reviews of novel approaches to the delivery of patient-centered care.

“Since its launch, JPCRR has worked to share, educate and advance ever-evolving patient-centered concepts within the scientific literature,” said Dr. Morgenstern. “This paradigm shift in clinical thinking has only grown in importance over the past nine years, and my paramount goal is to keep JPCRR faithful to this mission started by Dr. Baumgardner.”

As editor-in-chief, Dr. Morgenstern is responsible for overseeing JPCRR’s published content and peer-review process as well as chairing its editorial board, of which Dr. Baumgardner remains a member and journal contributor.

“I thank all those involved with JPCRR for allowing me the exciting privilege of serving as start-up editor-in-chief,” Dr. Baumgardner shared. “For, in the words of Theodore Roosevelt, ‘The best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.’”
